Twenty-five-nine-forty-six Red Jacket Road in Calumet will open its doors today for the first time to the public in many years. The famed Agassiz Hosue, former summer and working home Calumet Hecla Mining Company Manager Alexander Agassiz, will host an open house to show off some of renovation the bed and breakfast has made during the past year.
“So we’re really looking at this as an introduction, for the community and our neighbors. To see what we have done. We’re going to have two rooms set up, if you were to rent them, stay over night with us. We just want people to wander through, and check it out.” – Beth Baker, Co-Owner, Agassiz House
The structure stands among calumet many historic buildings, and the family of owners want to keep the building looking like it did as when Agassiz spent time in Calumet, says Beth Baker The Agassiz House Inn hopes to begin offering stays at the location sometime next month. Today’s open house will begin at 11 am at 25946 Red jacket road in Calumet.
The Agassiz Hosue Inn is owned by Beth Baker and her husband, and sister-in-law Rhonda Mott and her husband. They all moved to Calumet/Laurium from out of state a few years ago, Beth’s brother in law Mike has family roots in the region. The group is also owns a number of other buildings in the area, and have been working on various renovations at those sites too.
