The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative will hold a town hall this week for parents, educators, and child care providers, to address issues in early child care and education in Houghton County. Early childcare and education are important resources that support families and serves as a economic driver in rural communities. In Houghton County and throughout the state, communities are facing shortages when it comes to high quality childcare. The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative is participating in the First Children’s Finances Rural Child Care Innovation Program, to help create a plan to increase access to high quality child care. A town hall is scheduled for this Wednesday, and is expected to last about an hour and a half. Local leaders in child care will, provide an overview of current access in Houghton County, as well as review the impacts shortages have on local communities and families. The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative Town hall will be in the Memorial Union building on MTU’s campus this Wednesday, and starts at 8:30 am.
