AARP Foundation and Portage Lake District Library partner to bring a Tax-Aide site to the Copper Country. But need a local leader to take on the site’s responsibilities. Recently the AARP Foundation and the Portage Lake District Library began working to develop a Tax Aide site in the Houghton.
The site would provide tax preparation help free of charge for people over 50 in low to moderate-income brackets. The AARP Tax-Aide is the largest free volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program in the country with trained volunteers holding up-to-date IRS certifications. The Tax Prep site volunteer opportunity needs one to two people to take charge of the program. The lead volunteer will help with site set up, recruiting and training other volunteers, and oversee site operations. Tax preparation services typically begin in February.
The AARP Tax Aide program has preparation sites also in Escanaba, Menominee, Marquette, Negaunee, and Ishpeming. Those interested in learning more about the Tax-Aide Site volunteer opportunities at the Portage Lake District Library with the AARP Foundation should call 906 356 0584 for more information.
