Many from around the western Upper Peninsula flocked to the Portage Lake Life Bridge over the weekend for a celebration to kick off summer. Bridgefest 2024 presented by Up Health Systems – portage started off Friday with kids on the green in Hancock during the afternoon. Leading into clear blue skies for a grand parade in the evening. The parade tossed out candy to spectators and saw some dancing chickens, and large floats representing various organizations. After which parade goers walked down to Kestner Park for the Chad Borgan and the Collective to kick off the concert weekend. Saturday started with a little cloud cover before breaking up in time for a fantastic afternoon. Festival goers cruised by Quincy Street to check out classic cars and hot rods. And kids got to crawl around heavy equipment, police cruisers, and fire trucks at the Touch a Truck on the Waterfront Pier. Afternoon activities at Kestenr Park showed off vendor wares, raised funds for local organizations during a dunk tank, and time to take in a water ski show with Plum Ski-ters. Activities even included the first-ever Vollworth’s Hot Dog eating challenge. Then the evening opened up with Trophy Boy on stage, followed by the annual fireworks show.
