Ahead of their holiday concert, preschoolers at Good Shepherd preschool and church helped others in their community December 18 by donating goods to their local food pantry.
The school’s Director of Early Childhood Education, Marcia Lindstrom, remarked that the event poses an opportunity for the “littles” to learn the gift of giving.
“We try very hard to teach our children about giving and caring to those less fortunate, and we also teach them how important our police officers are to us. It’s really great thing to be able to do something for the community, and we love that we can tie the children in with it,” said Lindstrom.
This was the second time Good Shepherd partnered with Michigan State Police to collect items for the Alger County Food Pantry.
After a successful event last year, Lindstrom accepted the opportunity to hold the event again.
Community Service Trooper Tom Kinnunen arrived ahead of the preschooler’s concert with his trooper car, nicknamed the “blue goose.”
The children and concert attendees, upon arrival, then stuffed the “goose” with their non-perishable food items and monetary donations.
Other schools in the area are partnering with local law enforcement to hold similar “Stuff the Blue Goose” events during this holiday season.
