Between Ironwood and Houghton lies 128 miles, just over 4,000 feet of elevation change. Not to mention the grueling, rolling porcupine mountains in between them. Later today fifty five cyclists will end the third day of the twelve hundred mile round trip around the Upper Peninsula, dubbed Tour Da Yoop Eh!. At the end of the trip today, cyclists will arrive to one of the annual event’s favorite sections, the round trip journey around the Keweenaw Peninsula. Tomorrow morning cyclists and the city of Houghton will be up bright and early, as some of the community meets near Bridgeview Park to cheer the pack on. Cyclists will begin the journey around the Keweenaw first crossing the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, heading north toward Copper Harbor, for 117.1 miles. The two night’s spent in Houghton are followed on Wednesday by the bicycles traveling east on US-41, 113.1 miles, to Marquette.
Tour Da Yoop Eh! invites the copper country cycling community not taking part in the event, to come out to the start at Bridgeview Park on Tuesday for their trip to Copper Harbor and back. The pack will take off from Bridgeview Park at 7am and 8am.
