31 artists and writers earned recognition from the NMU Northern Shores storywork writing project for original works in 2025. Last Friday the Northern Shores story work writing project announced that 31 young artists and writers from the region will receive awards for original works submitted to the 2025 Scholastic Art and Writing awards. The awards are the long-running scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7th to 12th. More than 110 students in the Upper Peninsula submitted works to the Northern Shores Story work project. Significantly more than the amount of submissions the regional awards received in 2024. 31 students will receive regional honors including gold keys, silver keys, mentions, and American Visions and Voices nominations.
From the local community 11th grader from Hancock, Gabrielle Myers earned an honorable mention for her design entry. Calumet High School included several submissions that will receive honors from northern shores. Sophie Brewer will earn an honorable mention alongside Levi Mills and Ozzie nykanen. Grace Dee and Jada Hendrickson will each receive a silver key. Aili Heflin will earn a nomination for the American Voices Contest and a gold key award. And Madyson Evans from Baraga schools also earns an honorable mention and silver key award.
