Northern Michigan University earns $906,000 Innovation Investment Award for Competency-based education options

Northern Michigan University receives nearly 906,000 dollars to develop a competency-based education option for adults seeking to expand their professional knowledge. On Wednesday Northern Michigan University announced it received a 906,000 dollars Innovation Investment Award from the Michigan Center for Adult College Success.

The funding will support the university’s creation of competency-based education options for obtaining post-secondary credits. Associate provost Steve  VandenAvond says the added approach to education addresses the changing landscape of higher education and offers another resource for people seeking education at different points in life. He adds the development of a badging system allows the university to offer digital certificates upon completion of a course or non-credit workshop.
