Calumet, Hancock, E-TC in HS Volleyball Regional Semifinals Tonight – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

High School volleyball regional semifinals will be played tonight.

  • In Division Three, Calumet faces Manistique at Gwinn High School. The Copper Kings carry an overall record of 28-4-2 into the contest. The Emeralds are 15-11-6. Coverage will begin at 5:40 in advance of a 6:00 start on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
  • In Division Four, Hancock faces Ewen-Trout Creek at Houghton High School. The Bulldogs are 22-6-2 on the season, and the Panthers are 19-8-0. The start time has been pushed back to 6:30.

In other matches involving U.P. teams…

  • In Division Two, Kingsford faces Kingsley at Manistique High School.
  • In Division Four, Forest Park will play Munising at Escanaba High School. St. Ignace will take on Rudyard at Sault Ste. Marie High School.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team opens the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs this afternoon at 2:00 at Northern Michigan University. The Wildcats are seeded first, and the Huskies eighth.

College Basketball

Michigan Tech guard Pete Calcaterra has been named GLIAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week. Calcaterra scored 43 points in the Huskies’ season-opening wins over Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville last weekend.

College Hockey

Michigan Tech’s Stiven Sardarian has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Forward of the Week. He led the CCHA with three points in their weekend sweep at Ferris State.

NHL

The Red Wings visit the Penguins tomorrow. Coverage will start at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons entertain the Heat tonight. Coverage will start at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Ausar Thompson could be on his way back to the Pistons. After nine months on the sideline with blood clot issues, he’s been cleared to resume basketball activities. He’ll need some time to work himself back into game shape, and it’s not clear how long that will take.

MLB

Tarik Skubal has been named a finalist in this year’s American League Cy Young Award voting. The Detroit pitcher led the league in wins, earned run average and strikeouts. A.J. Hinch is a finalist for the A.L. Manager of the Year award.

NFL

The Dolphins got past the Rams 23-15 last night.
