Visit Keweenaw’s Snowfall contest returns before the snow starts flying

No one wants to talk about it until it finally gets here. But it will come. Visit Keweenaw plans to bring back the Keweenaw Snowfall Contest. Last year the regional tourism and visitor bureau introduced a fun contest to the community, asking individuals to guess how much snowfall the Keweenaw Peninsula will receive.

The region regularly welcomes snowy days, adding up to sometimes 300 or more inches of snow in a season. The high for the Keweenaw peninsula was measured in 1978 and 79 with the record-setting 390.4 inch winter. The lowest snowfall the Keweenaw has received was nearly one hundred years ago in 1931 and 32. Last year’s snowfall reached a below-average 126.5-inch total. Visit Keweenaw says the forecast for the 24-25 winter could bring more snow. A welcome thought for the region’s winter sports enthusiasts.

Visit Keweenaw does plan to publicly announce this year’s contest winner. Those interested in filling out a contest form to the visit Keweenaw snowfall contest can find more details online. The winner of the contest will have their choice of visit Keweenaw swag. The snowfall contest uses the Keweenaw County Road Commission snow tracker to follow the region’s snowfall in the contest.
