High School
Jeffers has been named Volleyball Team of the Year in the Copper Mountain Conference. Mia Nordstrom of the Jets was honored as Player of the Year by league coaches, and Rachel Sondgerath was named Coach of the Year. Ironwood’s Hanna Vaughn was selected as Defensive Player of the Year.
Local players named to the Elite Team include Kiera Isaacson from Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Cleo Milkey from Lake Linden-Hubbell and Taylor Heinonen from Jeffers.
Joining them on the Copper Country Division First Team are Sophie DesRochers and Megan Mayo from Baraga, and Brooklyn Dompier from L’Anse. Irelynd McGeshick and Emma Besonen from Ewen-Trout Creek were among those named to the Porcupine Mountain Division First Team.

Calumet opens play in the state high school football tournament at Kingsley this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:40 in advance of a 1:00 kickoff on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. The Stags are the defending Division Six state champions.

The Michigan Tech hockey team blanked Northern Michigan 3-0 last night. Max Koskipirtti, Tom Leppa and Stiven Sardarian scored for the Huskies. Derek Mullahy made 24 saves to earn his first victory as a Husky. Game two of the home-and-home set is tonight at 6:07 in Houghton.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team swept Parkside 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-22) yesterday. Meg Raabe had 16 kills. Tess Hayes recorded 36 assists and 15 digs. Brynn Erickson notched a career-best with 22 digs. The Huskies host Purdue Northwest today at 3:00.
The Northern volleyball squad defeated Purdue Northwest 3-1 (25-15, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21) last night. The Wildcats entertain Parkside today.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team travels to Chicago to face Roosevelt University this afternoon.
The Northern Michigan football team entertains Ferris State.
College Soccer
The NMU women’s soccer team buried Parkside 5-0 yesterday.
The MTU soccer team plays at Parkside Sunday.
The NMU men’s team dropped a 3-0 decision at Purdue Northwest yesterday, and will play at Parkside Sunday.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Sabers tonight. Coverage will start at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons lost to the Knicks 128-98 last night. Cade Cunningham scored 22 points.
The Pistons visit the Nets tomorrow afternoon.
MLB
The Tigers’ top farm team will have a new manager next season. After the Toledo Mud Hens posted a 69-80 record last season, Tim Federowicz will be replaced by Gabe Alvarez, who has been the manager for Detroit’s Double-A Erie Seawolves team.
Rhys Hoskins will be manning first base for the Brewers again next season. After hitting just .214 last season, he invoked his contract option for 2025, and will make $18 million.
NFL
The Lions visit the Packers for a 4:25 game tomorrow, with the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift. Packers quarterback Jordan Love is listed as questionable for the game, as he recovers from a groin injury suffered last week. Detroit will be without linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and pass rusher Josh Paschal.
