Eagle Mine community forums keep the public informed on operations and grant awards

Eagle Mine is holding its bi-annual community forums this week at the Powell, Michigamme and Humboldt townships halls.

These forums are an opportunity for the public to learn about the current mine operations, safety protocols and future plans. Refreshments are provided.

At the Powell Township Hall, the Fall forums began October 29 with a presentation by Eagle Mine Managing Director Darby Stacey, who stated that in the six months since the last community forums, the mine’s operations have been running at about 50%.

“We’ve been rehabbing our ramp in the mines, so we’ve been very busy doing nonroutine work to improve the ground conditions, the rock conditions on that ramp,” said Stacey, explaining the reason behind the reduced production.

Another major update since the last forums six months ago: Eagle Mine received a $145 million Department of Energy (DOE) grant in September for a combination of three projects with which the mine is involved.

To hear more about the grant and the projects in the works at Eagle Mine, you can attend the community forums in Michigamme and Champion October30, or call the Eagle Mine Information Center at (906) 273-1550.

October 30 forums will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Michigamme Township Hall and at 5:30 p.m. at Humboldt Township Hall in Champion.
