Ghouls take over the Orpheum Theater before Halloween

With Halloween only a couple of days away many people will get into the spooky season with a few scary movies. Horror films have been enjoyed by many generations over the years. From the silent film era, with such film classics like Nosferatu, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Then in 1968, George Romero revolutionized horror films with the introduction of the classic movie, Night of the Living Dead. Romero’s classic film broke ground at the time creating an intimate setting in rural Pennsylvania taken over by Ghouls, more commonly known today as zombies. The film also broke ground casting Duane Jones in the lead role. Jones’s character Ben was the first African American lead in a mainstream horror film at the time. Night of the Living Dead has gone on to inspire many other zombie movies and television series. Such as inspiring the popular horror comedy with a spoofed name, Shaun of the Dead, and Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead properties.

Tomorrow night The Orpheum Theater will host a special screening of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, presented by 2nd Sandbar and Wolf’s Head Film. Doors at the theater will open at 6 pm, and the movie will start at 8 pm. Admission to the show is free. After Romero’s film organizers plan a premiere of the short film, Snow Blowing Over the Dead of Winter. Those who want to get into the fun can also dress up as a zombie and earn a grand prize for the best-dressed zombie.
