Michigan State Police (MSP) held a hiring event on October 24 at the Eighth District Headquarters for local trooper and motor carrier positions.
“There are vacancies everywhere throughout the state,” explained Community Service Trooper Thomas Kinnunen. “[There are] a lot of opportunities in the Marquette County area with the Michigan State Police.”
At the hiring event, applicants attempted the first step of the hiring process: a baseline physical test and an entry-level written exam by the National Testing Network (NTN).
The physical test consists of push-ups, sit-ups, and a half-mile shuttle run. Passing scores for each part of the test are based on age. The minimum age to work as a trooper or motor carrier is 21 at the time of police academy graduation. There is no age maximum.
To pass the NTN entry-level exam, applicants need to score at least sixty percent in each part of the exam: reading, writing, and video-based prompts.
A practice entry-level exam is available for purchase online.
Those interested in a position with the MSP can contact their local post or visit the MSP careers website for more information.
