MI TRALE encourages public comment for a project proposal creating access to the South Branch of the Ontonagon River

MI TRALE encourages public comment for the Ottawa National Forest’s proposed South Branch of the Orntonagon River Canoe Landing Project. The Ottawa National Forest has proposed creating a new carry-in canoe launch and parking area along a segment of the south branch of the Ontonagon River, formerly owned by UPPCO. A clearing in the area, formerly a camp, would create an optimal midway point between existing landings further upstream and downriver. The project proposes to build a 515-foot long 36-inch wide portage trail, that follows an existing foot trail from a new parking lot to the river bank. The National Forest Service will seek to create an accessible space for outdoor users that also limits future erosion. The Canoe/kayak launch project proposal public comment period will remain open until October 31st.
