The installation of new boards around the hockey rink at Meadowbrook Arena could be completed by the middle of next week.
Village Manager Bob LaFave shared the update with the village council last night, noting that this will be the first time since the arena was built that it will have boards designed specifically for it. Previous installations have been obtained second-hand.
The $300,000 project was partly funded by a Michigan DNR Passport grant.
The installation is the latest in a series of upgrades to Meadowbrook, which also included updating the rest rooms, and providing better handicapped parking.
Meadowbrook is also obtaining sticks and sleds for sled hockey competition.

Trustees thanked the organizers of Friday’s Boo! On The Bay event, and noted that it had been well-attended.
Several organizations that had prepared for 500 young trick-or-treaters ran out of treats. Trustee LeAnn Davis was at the L’Anse DDA booth…
LaFave also confirmed that the L’Anse and Baraga municipal electric utilities will be among those affected by an upcoming planned electrical disruption.
ATC, which owns and maintains the power lines in the region, will shut down power to much of northern Baraga County October 23rd at 6 pm. Repairs to a major transmission line could take as long as 12 hours. Some UPPCO and Ontonagon REA customers in the area will also be included.
