11th Annual Ride Against Abuse raises awareness for victims of domestic violence

BKG and domestic violence victim advocates will rumble down the highway tonight. The 11th annual ride against abuse with the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter home will take off from the AmericInn in Calumet. The awareness ride helps to raise awareness for victims of domestic and sexual violence and advocates for a future where violence between partners does not happen.

The Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home operates 10 beds available for victims of violence and offers space for nonresidents to spend time with advocates. The shelter home has operated in the Copper Country for over 40 years and established its first physical home in 1983 with a donation from Herman Gundlach. Until the shelter’s recent move, BKG shared living space for victims at the Agassiz House in Calumet. The agency receives a majority of funding from the Michigan Division of Victim Services and uses funding from the United Way, donations, and grants for additional funds.

The 11th annual ride against abuse will start in Calumet travel along M -26 through Laurium and Lake Linden, and then end at Kestner Park in Houghton. The pack will take off from the AmericInn in Calumet at 6 pm. The AmericInn in located at 56925 6th Street in Calumet.
