Margaret J. Shelifoe, age 70 of Baraga, MI passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 6, 1953, in Sault St. Marie daughter of Robert Hoinowski and Dora (Rosetti). Margaret graduated from West Iron County High School and attended NMU. She Married Peter Gude in 1975 and they had 4 girls. She raised 4 girls and in 1988 became an EMT. She married Frederick Shelifoe in 2001, and they lived in Watersmeet for 10 years and worked at Lac Vieux Desert Resort & Casino; then moved to Baraga where she was a homemaker. Margaret did beadwork and sang with the drum. She was a member of Batchewana First Nation Tribe. She was a wonderful and creative mother who enjoyed nature walks, carpet picnics, playing cards and puzzles. Additionally, she was a devoted wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend.
Surviving are her husband Frederick Shelifoe of Baraga; children, Jaime Jager of Ishpeming, MI, Kathie Gude of De Pere, WI, Kristen Gude of Dollar Bay, MI, Megan Gude of Baraga, MI ; step children, Jeanne Emery of Baraga, Jim Shelifoe of Baraga, Bahgi Sandman-Shelifoe of L’Anse, Mino Gheezhig Sandman-Shelifoe of Green Bay, WI, Wabanungoquay Loyd (Jason) of Alberta, Wausau Sandman-Shelifoe of Superior, WI; brothers, John Hoinowski of Gaastra, Mike Hoinowski of Iron River; nieces and nephews, 85 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; stepchildren, Fred Shelifoe, Allen Shelifoe, Vicki Dakota, Steve Coffin, Gerald Shelifoe, Bridget Shelifoe, Cathy Velmer, and Kelley Shelifoe.
Margaret’s wake will be held at Zeba Hall starting at 5pm Friday, October 4th with the funeral beginning at 11 am Saturday, October 5th. Interment will be at the Pinery Cemetary at 1pm. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
