Local Ordinance Bill Passes House

A bill limiting the types of business regulations local governments can approve passed the House just one day after a dramatic committee hearing where protesters opposing the legislation interrupted proceedings multiple times.

The measure cleared the House on a 57-52 vote.

It would among other things, prohibit local governments from passing wage, leave and benefit requirements.

The bill would not affect local nondiscrimination ordinances around the state.
