Arthur John Sakkinen of Calumet, Michigan passed away on September 24, 2024 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, Michigan. Arthur was born on June 1, 1932 in Calumet Township to William Sakkinen and Evangeline (Martin) Sakkinen.
Arthur graduated from Calumet in Calumet, Michigan in 1949. He went into the army at the age of seventeen where he served for four years.
Art met his first wife Ruth Collins and they were married on April 24, 1954. Arthur worked as a manager at Case Company until his retirement in 1988. He then moved his family to Calumet.
His first wife, Ruth Collins passed away in 1993. Art met and married his second wife, Leona Mattson in 1995.
Arthur loved to watch the Green Bay Packers play. He enjoyed history, especially on the Korean war and other conflicts, and reading the Bible.
Art is preceded in death by his parents William and Evangeline Sakkinen, his first wife Ruth (Collins) Sakkinen, brother James Sakkinen, sister Alberta Sakkinen Mattila.
Arthur is survived by Leona Sakkinen, daughter Gail Ruth Moore, granddaughter Amanda Rank, children of his heart Joni Mountz, Bryan Ely, Greg Ely, Gayle McGeorge and Troy Ely, numerous grandkids, and nieces and nephews.
A service for Arthur Sakkinen will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan at 11:00am on Thursday, September 26, 2024. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00am at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan. There will be a luncheon at the Siskiwit Reception Hall following the burial at Lake View Cemetery.
