The Nature Conservancy purchases five miles of shoreline near the Mary Macdonald Preserve

The Nature Conservancy connects the east and west sides of the Mary Macdonald Preserve at Horseshoe Harbor. Today TNC announced it has purchased 24 acres of land in Keweenaw County from a private landowner.

The purchase adds another five miles of protected shoreline to Keweenaw County. Between the nature conservancy and its partners conservation efforts have protected 19 of the county’s 30 miles of mainland shoreline. The purchase also connects the east and west ends of the Mary Macdonald Preserve at Horseshoe Harbor.

The preserve was established in 1982 and protects over 1200 acres of forest and shores. Those interested in learning more about the Mary Macdonald Preserve or the Nature Conservancy’s recent land purchase of 24 acres can find more details here.
