High School

In football last evening…

  • Houghton stomped Westwood 39-8.
  • Calumet lost 48-6 at Menominee. Peter Eskola returned a kickoff 79 yards for the Copper Kings’ only score. For the Maroons, Trever Theuerkauf threw touchdown passes of 42 and 30 yards, and also returned an interception for a score.
  • Hancock fell to Gladstone 36-20.
  • L’Anse lost to Manistique 43-8.
  • Ontonagon dropped a 50-20 decision at Rudyard.

Today, Lake Linden-Hubbell welcomes Newberry for homecoming at 1:30.

In high school volleyball today…

  • Houghton competes at the Pulaski Tournament.

In boys soccer last evening…

  • Houghton mercied Iron Mountain 9-1 in the second half of their home and home series. Oliver Pap had two goals for the Gremlins, and Roberto Marin, Ian Hembroff, Caleb Wiitanen, Grant Northey, Joshua Bennett, Henry Lounibos and Ethan Heckel each scored once. 

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team visits Wisconsin-Oshkosh today.

The Northern Michigan football squad entertains Division III Alma College for homecoming.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team shaded Davenport University 2-1 in their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener yesterday. Julia Pietila scored both Huskies goals. The Huskies will host top-ranked Grand Valley State tomorrow at noon.

The NMU women’s soccer team lost to Grand Valley 1-0 yesterday. The Wildcats will entertain Purdue Northwest tomorrow.

The Wildcats men’s team plays at St. Cloud State tonight.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team opened its GLIAC campaign with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23) victory at Purdue Northwest yesterday. The Huskies play at Parkside today.

The Northern volleyball team blanked Parkside 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) last night, and visit Purdue Northwest today.

MLB

The Tigers’ four-game winning streak ended with a 7-1 loss to the Orioles last night. Tyler Holton opened, and surrendered a two-run homer. Keider Montero succeeded him, and allowed four round-trippers while pitching into the sixth. 

The Tigers visit the Orioles again today. Reese Olson will start against Cade Povich. Coverage will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Twins defeated the Red Sox, and opened a one-game lead over the Tigers in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth.

The Brewers dropped a 7-4 decision to the Diamondbacks last night. William Contreras, Garrett Mitchell and Joey Ortiz homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers continue that home set against the Diamondbacks tonight. Aaron Civale will pitch against Merrill Kelly.

Milwaukee called pitcher Kevin Herget up from Triple-A Nashville yesterday. Despite a 1.70 ERA in 17 major league appearances, pitcher Enoli Paredes was designated for assignment.

NFL

The Lions visit the Cardinals for a 4:25 game tomorrow on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Packers travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans tomorrow at 1:00. Green Bay has listed quarterback Jordan Love as “questionable” for the game, as he recovers from a knee injury sustained in week one.
