Yoopfest’s Move into the Calumet Theatre Enhances Attendee Experience during the Music Festival

Yoopers enjoy a wide range of music and fun. This year Yoopfest will move the music festival into the Calumet Theatre for the first time. The festival has run for three years, starting with a small group of musicians at the East Houghton Skate Park. Yoopfest Lead Organizer and Owner of Kitchy Spirits Records Chris Joutras says that the move into the theatre should expand the experience attendees have when enjoying punk, funk, rock and roll, and indie styles.

It’s just been kind of growing every year and being able to do it at the Calumet Theatre, we just wanted to have a little more infrastructure and a little better sound. It’s not much better than having a great outdoor music event, but we did have to wrestle with some weather a couple times, so having it inside and having good sound and a great venue. Upstairs in the ballroom we’ll be able to dance a little more. more space, it’s a ballroom, we’re gonna be having a ball up there and then you know, you can come downstairs and catch your breath and check out some maybe like a little more intimate artists. – Chris Joutras, Owner, Kitchy Spirit Records

Yoopfest plans to start the music on Friday afternoon and keep the music going until midnight on Saturday. Bands from the local area, and around the Midwest will offer a wide range of sounds for the Calumet to enjoy. Those interested in purchasing a single-day ticket or festival pass can find more details online.
