Big Annie Clemenc is synonymous with a march. Coming up soon the Big Annie Statue Fund Project will host the March on Into Fall fundraising event. In 2022 the village of Calumet supported a local proposal to erect a statue of Anna Klobucher Clemenc. She was a figure of the 1913 Copper Strike as an organizer for marches in the area. Eventually, she went on a tour to speak and raise funds for victims of the Italian Hall Disaster. In the 1990’s CLemenc was inducted as the first person nominated to the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame. On September 29th the Project Fund will host a social event at the Bonfire in Houghton. While enjoying delicious food from the Bonfire attendees can listen to the sweet sounds of music from Rob Fritz and Steve Jones. Or check out a silent auction and live painting with Lynn Mazzoleni. The event will also include a presentation on Anna Klobucher Clemenc from Director of the MTU Archives Lindsay Hiltunen. As well as hear about the progress the project fund has made in the past several months. Tickets are available online or at several businesses in the area. Tickets will cost 50 dollars for an individual. Those interested in learning more about Big Annie or the Project fund can find more details here.
