The Houghton Keweenaw 4 H Program awards this year’s Senior Scholarship Award to Claudia Torrey. On Friday the Houghton Keweenaw County 4 H Program announced Claudia Torrey has been awarded the 2024 Senior Scholarship Award worth 500 dollars.
Torrey has become an active member of the program’s Trap Rock 4 H club by providing leadership to younger members and volunteering annually during Kid’s Day activities at the Houghton County Fair. In 2023 her family was awarded the county-wide 4 h Family of the Year award, partially due to her contributions to the Trap Rock 4 H club. Program coordinator Anne Kretschmann says the Torrey embraces key components of 4H. Kretschmann added that her quiet confident leadership helps Torrey act as an exemplary role model in her service to others, along with her positive attitude.
The Houghton Keweenaw County 4 H Program’s Senior Scholarship is awarded annually to an area high school senior with at least three years of 4 H club participation, for educational aspirations at university, in the military, at trade school, or with an apprenticeship.
