Volleyball Wins for LL-H, Hancock, Chassell – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…

• Hancock and Dollar Bay-Tamarack City competed in a triangular at Chassell. The Panthers defeated the Blue Bolts 2-1 (15-25, 25-22, 15-11). For Chassell, Dusty Lippold had two kills and four digs, Oriana Olson had two kills, two block assists and four digs, Sylvia Aho had five assists, one block assist and one ace, Elli Kuntze had seven digs and a block assist, and Megan Holombo had eight digs. Hancock defeated Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 2-0 (25-9, 25-12). The Bulldogs then defeated the Panthers 2-0 (20-25, 15-25). For Chassell, Olson had a kill, a solo block and four digs, Lippold had a kill, a block assist, two digs and four aces, and Paige Danison had a kill, a block assist, a dig and an ace.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell dispatched Baraga 3-1 (25-14, 26-24, 22-25, 25-17). Cleo Milkey led the Lakes with nine kills, Alli Corrigan served nine aces, and Ashlyn Steves had 10 digs.
• Ewen-Trout Creek fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 3-2.

On tonight’s volleyball schedule…

• Calumet hosts West Iron County. Coverage will begin around 6:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

MLB

The Tigers had yesterday off, and visit the Padres again tonight. Keider Montero will start against Yu Darvish. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Joey Wentz is no longer a Tiger. Detroit designated him for assignment a few days ago, and he was claimed off waivers by the Pirates.

The Cardinals scored three runs off Elvis Peguero in the top of the 12th inning, and downed the Brewers 7-4 last evening. Jackson Chourio continued his hot streak with a home run and an RBI double. Joey Ortiz also homered.

The Brewers host the Cardinals again tonight. Colin Rea will pitch against Sonny Gray.

Peguero was in the game after being called back up from Nashville. Reliever Bryan Hudson was sent down. Reliever Hoby Milner was brought out off the injured list, and reliever Bryse Wilson was added to it.
