HPTS Board of Education Promotes Burns to Vice President and Adds a New Member

The Houghton Portage Township School board experiences some movement ahead of the 2024-25 school year. During the August school board meeting, Houghton Portage Township School’s board of education accepted the resignation of Scott Leonard as vice president.  Board Secretary Brent Burns will replace Leonard as the board vice president. Burns moved up on the board and required Houghton Portage Township also to fill the secretary role. Member Mike Salmi will take on those duties. With the departure of one board member, Houghton Portage Township schools did appoint Julie Cheschke to the board of education. In addition to board of education promotions, the district approved hiring a special education teacher in the elementary school, and coaches for fall sports.
