Finlandia Foundation National Invites the Upper Peninsula to Join Finnish Fun in Negaunee

Around the Upper Peninsula, it’s hard to not find a little influence from Finnish immigrants who settled in the region. Today many residents claim some amount of Finnish heritage. Which has led to the creation of Finnish cultural groups throughout the Upper Peninsula. One of the country’s largest Finnish-American cultural groups, the Finlandia Foundation National, plans to bring many Finnish descendants together later this week for a Finn Fun Day. Since the foundation set down roots at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock, the organization has planned several cultural events around the region, with help from the FFN Lake Superior Chapter.

On Saturday the group’s Finn Fun Day #14 in Negaunee will include Finnish entertainment, a tori marketplace, 505/50 drawings, and coffee with pulla. Finn Fun Day will start with welcoming remarks from Lake Superior Chapter president Ron Hill and a song from Tanja Stanaway and Pauline Kiltinen. Throughout the event, Stanaway will perform with other local musicians including Pasi Lautala, and Oscar Forsman. Retired director of the Finnish American Heritage Center, Jim Kurtti will also join the fun on Saturday and share about a recent award from the Finnish government and activities with the heritage center in Hancock. The event will begin at 11 am at the Negaunee Township Hall on M-35. Those interested in learning more about Finn Fun Day on Saturday in Negaunee can find more details here.
