Claire Louise (Mihelich) Turnquist, 89 of Ahmeek, Michigan died on August 1, 2024.

Claire was born in Calumet, Michigan on August 30, 1934.

She was employed at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge for many years where she met many, many friends whom she loved. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran church in Mohawk where she looked forward to attending every Sunday that she could.

She believed in Ahmeek Santa Claus. He would visit her on the Ahmeek village firetruck every year. She loved her house full of grandkids and great grandkids and enjoyed cooking big meals, and cards with the ladies on First Street got her away from her 7 rugrats on Saturdays.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Alvin Richard in 2021 and her parents, Martin and Ann (Sorenson) Mihelich and a great grandson, Louie.

She is survived by her 7 children, Jeff (Mary) Turnquist of Atlantic Mine, Mich., Karen (Mike) Foster of Seattle, Wash., Jim (Susan) Turnquist of Marengo, Wisc., Janine (Steve) Hentrich of St. Clair Shores, Mich., David (Ann) Turnquist of Marengo, Wisc., Sandy (Mark Mezydlo) Turnquist of Mohawk, Mich., Leslie Turnquist of Ahmeek, Mich., two sisters Rosalie and Margie, and brother-in-law Jerry Turnquist of Plymouth, Mich., and several nieces and nephews and cousins, 27 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and lots of friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 4:00pm, with visitation from 2:00-4:00 pm. The funeral and visitation will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home, located in Calumet, MI.

There will be a luncheon at the Hidden Pines Barn next to the Funeral Home to follow for all of her friends and family to attend.

She will be buried with her husband at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet at a later date.
