M-26 in Painsdale now honors a fallen soldier of World War Two. On Tuesday, plans to name a section of the highway for Private Wesley Vietti Karna, who died fighting in northern Italy on September 22nd, 1944, were officially signed. Representative Greg Markkanen, who led the effort, says this honor ensures Karna’s memory and sacrifice for his country will never be forgotten. Markkanen’s plan passed through the House Transportation Committee earlier in the year. While testifying before the committee Markkanen was joined by Karna’s great nephew Brady Uren, who presented the soldier canteen that was rediscovered at the battleground where he lost his life.
