MLB

The Tigers returned from the All-Star break with a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays last night. Jack Flaherty didn’t allow a baserunner through five innings. He left the game in the sixth, after giving up a two-run homer to Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. The Tigers had plated three in the top of the fourth, on an RBI single by Riley Greene, and a two-run Mark Canha homer. They added two more on a Wenceel Pérez home run in the seventh. George Springer’s two-run shot off Beau Brieske in the eighth narrowed the gap, but Jason Foley and Tyler Holton were able to close the game out.

The Tigers have won nine of their last 11 games, and visit the Blue Jays again today. Keider Montero will pitch against Kevin Gausman. Coverage will begin at 1:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers return from the break tonight at Minnesota. Freddy Peralta will start against Pablo López.

NHL

The Red Wings have agreed to a new contract with defenseman Joe Veleno. It’s a two-year deal worth $4.5 million.

Running

The annual Canal Run takes place this morning. Races will take place on roads between McLain State Park and downtown Hancock. Those roads will remain open, but speeds will be reduced. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area until late morning.
