MLB

Jarron Duran’s two-run homer in the fifth inning gave the American League a 5-3 victory in the All Star Game last night. Shohei Ohtani’s three-run homer off Tanner Houck in the top of the third gave the National League a brief lead. The A-L tied it in the bottom of the inning against Logan Webb, when Juan Soto doubled home two runs, and then scored on a David Fry single. Duran’s game-winning shot came off Hunter Greene, and earned him the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award.

Detroit’s Tarik Skubal pitched a perfect second inning, retiring Christian Yelich, Alec Bohm and Teoscar Hernández. Riley Greene made a nice sliding catch in left field, but went 0-for-2 at the plate. Yelich and William Contreras of the Brewers each went 0-for-2.

The Tigers return to action Friday, when they visit the Blue Jays. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Milwaukee is off until Saturday, when they play at Minnesota.

The Tigers and Brewers continued their focus on pitchers in the final 10 rounds of the MLB Draft yesterday. Detroit added seven more, along with a catcher, a shortstop and an outfielder. Milwaukee claimed eight, plus a shortstop and a catcher.
