The Tigers scored five runs in the eighth inning, and came from behind to down the Reds 5-3 yesterday. Wenceel Pérez hit a two-run homer, and Mark Canha and Carson Kelly each had RBI doubles. On a bullpen day, six Tigers relievers combined to allow just six hits, and strike out 13 Cincinnati batters.

Detroit has traded reliever Trey Wingenter to the Red Sox. Wingenter spent part of last season in Detroit. He had pitched this entire season at Toledo. In exchange, the Tigers get pitcher CJ Weins, who was a sixth-round draft pick out of Western Kentucky in 2023, and had spent this season at Boston’s Low-A farm club in Salem.
Miguel Vargas’ pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Dodgers to a 5-3 win over the Brewers. His solo blast off Bryan Hudson was followed by Shohei Otani’s 28th home run of the season. Rhys Hoskins and Christian Yelich homered for Milwaukee. Starter Freddy Peralta surrendered three runs in the first inning, and left after the fourth.
The Brewers visit the Dodgers again today. Dallas Keuchel will start for the Crew. L.A. has not named a starter.
NBA
The Pistons have inked forward Simone Fontecchio to a two-year contract extension, reported to be worth $16 million. Fontecchio was acquired from the Jazz in February, in exchange for forward Kevin Knox and a second-round draft pick.
Reports say that Detroit has also agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with former Bucks guard Malik Beasley.
And, the Pistons have signed a rookie-scale contract with former G League Ignite forward Ron Holland II, who was the fifth overall pick in the recent draft. He’ll make $6.8 million next season.
