“Microbead” Ban Introduced

A move is underway to ban “microbeads” in cleaning products like soap and toothpaste.

The nearly invisible beads have been found in surface waters of the Great Lakes recently.

In Congress, Representative Fred Upton of Michigan is co-sponsoring bills to ban the small beads.

A hearing was held recently on the issue.

Upton says millions of Americans use microbeads every day without ever knowing it.
