As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:
Dennis K. Polzien, 72, of Calumet passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, June 21, 2024.
Dennis was born on April 20, 1952 in Roscommon Township, Michigan to Edwin and Marian Polzien. He was an honor graduate of Gladwin High School and attended Michigan Tech University where he played football and earned a degree in Forestry.
In 1977 Dennis and two of his brothers started Osceola Fiberglass Manufacturing, Inc., a company they ran for 26 years making fiberglass tubs and showers and selling plumbing supplies. Dennis’ entrepreneurial spirit continued with two of his own companies, Calumet Transport and Calumet Wood Products. He retired in 2023 due to ill health related to a rare neurological condition.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Joan, sons Mark (Carolyn), Nathan (Leah), daughter Erin, grandsons Jack and Dane, and granddaughters Maya, Lily, Evelyn, Isla, and Vivian.
He is also survived by his brothers Dan (Paulette) of Kingsford, Daryle (Gladys) of Lake Linden, and Doug of Lake Linden, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Marian, and brother David (Debra-Jay) of North Carolina.
Dennis was at his best and happiest in the outdoors. His love of nature was a passion he shared with his family – and that is how he will be remembered – sharing what he loved with those he loved.
Per Dennis’ wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
