Bill Would Require A Warrant For Email & Text Message Searches

The government would have to get a search warrant to look through your emails and text messages under a resolution introduced in the Michigan House.

If approved the resolution would place a question on the November, 2016 ballot asking voters if police departments should have to get a search warrant before looking through someone’s electronic data.

State Representative Jim Runestad is sponsoring the resolution and says other states are looking at the issue so Michigan should too.
