USDA Announces $25 Million in Broadband Grant Funding Available to Michigan Communities

The US Department of Agriculture Rural Development for Michigan announces that 25 million dollars in broadband grant funds are available through the BTA program. Today the USDA Rural Development state director for Michigan Brandon Fewins announced that 25 million dollars are available to communities and tribes with the Broadband technical assistance program. The BTA program aims to expand affordable high-speed internet connections to rural communities. Fewins says that the funds available represent an incredible opportunity to bring high-speed Internet to Michiganders in rural areas, and urges community leaders to contact the USDA Michigan office. The funds will help rural communities and tribal nations in Michigan with determining feasibility, network designs, hiring efforts, and application development assistance.

10 million of the 25 million dollars will work with the Technical Assistance Recipients category. A minimum award in the TAR category will disperse 500,000 dollars and limit awards to 5 million dollars. The USDA asks communities and organizations interested in submitting a grant application will need to file paperwork before August 20th.
