UPPCO Announces Plans to Transition to Renewable Energy by 2040

Upper Peninsula Power Company announces the company’s intentions to deliver 100 percent renewable energy to the region by 2040.

Last Wednesday, Upper Peninsula Power Company announced its commitment to plans to meet sustainable energy solutions required by state statutes over the next 16 years. By 2035 UPPCO intends to transition 60 percent of power delivery to renewable energy sources. Completing the region’s transition to renewable energy fully by 2040. Chief Executive Officer Grandon Haehnel says that UPPCO recognizes the vital role clean energy plays in building a brighter more sustainable future in the state of Michigan. Going further to commit to responsible decision-making that harnesses the power of renewable and clean energy resources to meet the evolving needs of the region’s communities.

UPPCO will collaborate with Enel X Advisory Services to launch a competitive and transparent request for proposals focused on the region’s energy landscape. Enel X Advisory Services works to enable businesses and communities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico to develop renewable energy strategies. UPPCO will plan to have public engagement on the topic during the fall as it prepares for the next iteration of its integrated resource plan.
