Michigan Technological University introduces a new environmental data science program to campus. Michigan Tech realizes there’s a growing need for data scientists working on environmental analysis. Leading the university to expand its current program offerings to students, and will introduce the new Environmental Data Science program this upcoming fall semester. Dean of the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Sciences David Flashpohler says that the unique program will allow students to gain experience in the area of data collection that they will then analyze in the classroom and lab. The new program expands off of the university’s existing data science program that was introduced in 2023. Michigan Tech launched its data science master’s program in 2014. Associate Dean of Data Science Initiatives in the College of Computing Laura Brown adds that all of the data in the world means nothing without the literacy to understand the data, believing that all students on campus can benefit from a data science course regardless of program focus.
