Marquette League of Women Voters Will Bring Together the Six Candidates Running in the 109th District for a Community Forum

Ahead of the August Michigan Primary The Marquette County League of Women Voters will bring together each candidate vying for the 109th district. At the end of June, the League of Women Voters will host a Candidate Forum inviting all six registered candidates together to answer questions directly from residents. The 109th district has historically represented residents in Marquette County and parts of the central Upper Peninsula. In 2022 after the state’s redistricting was approved, Baraga County was added into the 109th district. Before the change, Baraga County residents voted in the 110th district with Houghton and other western Upper Peninsula counties.

On the Democratic ticket, current representative Jenn Hill is running for a second term. She will be challenged for the party’s nomination by Randy Girard and Margert Brumm. On the Republican ticket, the 109th district will choose between Karl Bohnak, Melody Wagner, and Burt Mason. The forum will not act as a debate stage or allow cross-talk. The League of Women Voters is committed to allowing each candidate to address the public’s questions to better inform the community. Before the Candidate Forum, the League of Women voters will accept questions from residents for the forum. The Candidate Forum in the 109th District will take place at the Marquette Charter Township Community Center on June 29th, beginning at 6 pm.
