Keweenaw Community Foundation Awards 2024 Scholarship to Copper Country Students

Now that high school graduation around the cooper country have wrapped up. Students will move into the workforce or head off for secondary education. The Keweenaw Community Foundation happily announces several students from the region will receive a little extra help thanks to scholarship awards. The Bernard F Gaffney Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to recent Houghton High School graduate Wyatt Jenkins and alumni Claire Filpus. The scholarship was named in honor of former Houghton Portage Township Superintendent Bernard Gaffney who served in the role from 1961 to 1966. Rebecca Lyons will receive the 2024 Faith Lutheran Church Scholarship. Taryn Maki will earn the Richard and Clara Fedewa Scholarship for her academic achievements and active membership with the St Ignatius Catholic Parish. Houghton Rotary will award three scholarships in 2024 to Addison Hembroff, Alethea Oakley, and Marino Pisani. Alethea Oakley also earned the Copper Country Kiwanis Scholarship alongside Elizabeth Desrochers and Madison Minerick.
