The progression of artificial intelligence in today’s society has Michigan Technological University thinking ahead. Michigan Tech’s Institute of Computing and Cyber systems recently announced the formation of the Center for Artificial Intelligence. The new center’s inaugural director Vinh Nguyen aims to cultivate cutting-edge research in AI development and application to prepare the next generation of AI professionals, by establishing external partnerships to address today’s problems. Nguyen says that the accelerated advent of AI presents exciting opportunities and challenges to today’s society, and the Center for AI at Michigan Tech is a culmination of research and education in fields including computing, transportation, manufacturing, sustainability, humanities, and health. The Center for Artificial Intelligence evolves from the ICC’s Data Science Center, with a renewed focus on pioneering AI research across fields. By leveraging the University’s existing strengths in engineering and computing the Center for AI will seek to achieve objectives in Innovation research, interdisciplinary Collaboration, External Partnerships, and AI education.
