Obituary: Wilson A. Hoy

Wilson A. Hoy, 83, former longtime resident of Greenville, MI, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at Canal View in Hancock, MI. Wilson was born in Greenville, MI, on May 14, 1941, to Harry C. and Patricia (Noxon) Hoy. Upon graduation from Greenville High School, Wilson enlisted with the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Forrestal. Much of Wilson’s life was spent working the family apple orchard located east of Greenville, and for the Michigan Reformatory before retiring after 35 years.

Wilson, a devoted husband and loving father, is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Heether) of Hancock, MI (formally Belding, MI); daughters Elizabeth Hoy (Jacque Smith) of Laurium, MI, Margaret Landsbarger (Robert) of Houghton, MI; and son Joseph Hoy (Lisa Steed) of Gowen, MI. Grandpa will be dearly missed by grandchildren Taylor Hoy (Trenton Shermerhorn), and Nash and Emerson Landsparger; and by his loyal cat companion Bear. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Weber (Melvin).

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Greenville with final resting place at the Liminga Cemetery in Houghton County. Per the family’s wishes, these events will be held when Wilson and Barb are ready for their final journey together.
