Danny Leo Jarve, 65 of Calumet, MI passed away to his heavenly home on May 26th at the Omega House with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He had just celebrated 39 years of marriage to wife Debra Bessner of Calumet.
Danny was born September 15th, 1958 to Leonard and Eleanor (Koivu) Jarve. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1977. He enlisted in the Air Force where he served for 4 years and then joined the Army National Guard 107th Engineer Battalion for 16 years. He was head of maintenance at Calumet Housing. He loved his community and was a member of countless local groups and organizations, volunteering for many types of events in the community, his personal favorite was cooking the Memorial Day Breakfast at the VFW Post 90 in Lake Linden, which he was a member.
Danny was a commercial fisherman alongside his father Legga in his early years at Betsy, which led to a lifetime of him being an avid fisherman, participating in many local tournaments and going out with his son and daughter, later also with his grandchildren. Danny also enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He spent a lot of time in the woodshop with his daughter making cribbage boards for local fundraisers and other pieces for those he cared for. He was a true jack of all trades willing to help out those who needed it.
Surviving are his wife Debra, son Kyle(Jessica) Jarve, grandsons lan and Joel Jarve of Marquette, daughter Danielle(Robert) Bankemper, granddaughters Kora, Taylen, and Emma Bankemper of Laurium, stepbrother Larry(Debra) Swetich of Marquette, stepbrother Gary Swetich of Calumet, sisters in law Gail (Ray) Gerard of Laurium, Lori Bessner of Minnesota, Vicki Bessner of Minnesota, brother in law Bill Bessner of Laurium and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Eleanor Jarve, Stepmother Geraldine (Barnowski) Jarve, Sister Karen Jarve, Brother Kenny Jarve. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Calumet.
Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday May 31, 2024 from 11-1:00 PM and memorial service will follow in the funeral home on Friday with Rev. Jared Howard to officiate.
Burial with military rites will be held in the Lake View Cemetery Veterans section following the service.
