Hancock Earns a Silver Seal from the Michigan Green Communities Challenge

The City of Hancock has been recognized for its environmental leadership by the statewide Michigan Green Communities Program. As a part of the Michigan Green Communities Challenge local governments were awarded bronze, silver, gold, or platinum statuses for achievements made in energy efficiency, adaptation and resilience, recycling, and environmental justice. The City of Hancock earned a silver seal for exemplary actions in planning, economic development, land use, climate resilience and adaptations, energy efficiency and renewable energy, water conservation and protection, and community engagement. The MGC Challenge included a record 63 participating communities this year. Hancock was one of 20 to earn a silver seal. Bronze seals were earned by 7 communities, and 36 others earned a gold certification. The Michigan Green Communities program promotes sustainability and is open to all municipalities at no cost. The MGC is supported by the Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigna Department of Natural Resources, The Michigan Association of Counties, Michigan Municipal League, and the Michigan Township Association.
