Keweenaw County Sheriff Locates Kayaker with After Faulty Emergency Beacon Triggers Distress Signal

Keweenaw County Sheriff locates kayaker in Lake Superior after a faulty emergency beacon was triggered. Yesterday at 2 pm the Keweenaw County sheriff was dispatched for a s.o.s. distress signal offshore from the Horseshoe Trail in Grant Township. Keweenaw County Sheriff, Michigan Parks and Recreation, and the U.S. Coast Guard launched four boats for the search. While Keweenaw County Sheriff deputies and Copper Harbor Fire volunteers search the land near the trail. Due to favorable weather conditions, a search boat located Cale Prozen from Minnesota, north of Keystone Bay. Officers determined that Porzen was not in any danger, but rather a distress signal was sent out by a faulty emergency beacon. Keweenaw County sheriff would like to remind the public to double-check safety equipment and know their limits before venturing into remote locations.
