In baseball yesterday…

• L’Anse split a twinbill against Ewen-Trout Creek, dropping the first game 6-5, and winning the nightcap 1-0.
Houghton’s baseball field will be dedicated to the memory of coach John Bostwick today. The ceremony will take place at 9:30 at the field, behind the high school. It will be followed by the first John Bostwick Memorial Tournament. Houghton will face Westwood at 10:00. Calumet and Hancock will meet at noon. The championship game will be played at 3:00.
In softball yesterday…
• The Hancock games at L’Anse were canceled because the Purple Hornets couldn’t field a full team.
• Jeffers v Ironwood – no report.
• Houghton shut down Gogebic 11-2. Estella Soumis struck out 10, and gave up just four hits. Brynn Arko had three hits, including a home run.
In softball today…
• Houghton hosts Lake Linden-Hubbell and Westwood. We’ll broadcast the opening game between the Gremlins and Lakes beginning at 10:45 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
The Houghton girls soccer team plays at Marquette today.
NHL
In second-round NHL tournament play last night…
• The Panthers shaded the Bruins 2-1. Florida wins that series 4-2, and will face the Rangers for the Eastern Conference championship beginning Wednesday.
• The Stars dispatched the Avalanche 2-1 in double overtime. Dallas takes that series 4-2, and advances to the Western Conference finals.
Tonight…
• The Oilers host the Canucks. Vancouver is up 3-2 in that Western Conference set.
NBA
In NBA Conference semifinal play last evening…
• The Pacers stopped the Knicks 116-103. That Eastern Conference series is tied 3-3, and will be decided tomorrow.
Tonight…
• The Mavericks welcome the Thunder. Dallas leads that Western Conference series 3-2.
MLB
After suffering two straight shutouts, the Tigers mauled the Diamondbacks 13-0 last night. Tarik Skubal allowed just one hit over six innings. Will Vest and Joey Wentz completed the shutout. Colt Keith had four hits, scored three times, and drove in two runs. Javier Báez had three hits and drove in five runs.
The Tigers play at Arizona again tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Zac Gallen. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers fell to the Astros 5-4. Freddy Peralta struggled through five innings, allowing all five Houston runs. Joey Ortiz and Jake Bauers homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers play at Houston again this evening. Bryse Wilson will start against Justin Verlander.
