Finlandia University softball coach Brittany Williams has resigned after two years on the job.
The announcement was made today by Finlandia athletic director Chris Salani, who indicated in a news release that Williams stepped down for personal reasons.
“I want to thank everyone in the Finlandia family for the opportunity, their constant support and making me feel like family from day one. I learned so much in my time here and I wish everyone the best,” said Williams.
“While this is a tough time for our current players and new members of the program, they, along with Finlandia University would like to wish Brittany nothing but happiness in her new journey,” said Salani.
Williams took over the program from Shawn Hendrickson, who guided the Lions to a 25-8 record and the team’s first-ever berth in the NCAA tournament in the 2013 season. Hendrickson became the softball coach at Transylvania University.
The Lions’ record fell to 14-18 in Williams’ first season, and 8-34 this year.
Salani said the search for Williams’ replacement will begin immediately. “The next head coach will inherit a solid nucleus for the next season and beyond.”
