Michigan Technological University Designated a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Research

Michigan Tech has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Research by the U.S. National Security Agency. The designation recognizes the institution’s dedication to the rigorous requirements set by the NSA. College of Computing Department of Computer Science Associate Professor Bo Chen says that the designation will allow the university access to federal research grants. The status also recognizes and elevates the university’s status in the cybersecurity field. Chen played a large role as chairperson for the CAE-R Designation committee. The program addresses a critical shortage of professionals with cyber security skills and highlights the importance of high education as a solution to defending the country’s cyberspace says NSA National CAE program manager Renae Weathers. The Michigan Tech College of Computing is one of the fastest-growing colleges on campus as students become more interested in cybersecurity and computing fields.
