That spoiled a great start by Jack Flaherty, who pitched into the seventh, allowed just two hits, and struck out 14, including the first seven batter he faced. That tied a major league record. The Tigers’ bats woke up for an 11-6 victory in the nightcap. Greene homered again, and Wenceel Pérez hit two out. In a spot start, Matt Manning tossed four shutout innings, but left as the Cardinals scored five runs in the fifth.
